Mercury, a product of Ford's Lincoln Division, was launched in 1939 as a rival to G.M's Oldsmobile and Buick products. The first Mercury was in effect a modified 1939 Ford v8. It wasn't until 1949 that Mercury had their own models. Mercury became famous in the mid sixties with the Cougar, a luxury version of the Mustang. In the late 1960's they produced some amazing muscle cars like the 427 V8 Cyclone.
