HOLDEN COMMODORE VB HISTORY

Holden Commodore VB 1978-1980

October 1978 GMH release the new Holden Commodore VB Model. It’s design was based on an Opel platform with the rear of the firewall from an Opel record and the front clip from the Opel Senator, giving Holden enough room for their 6 and V8 engines.

The new model initially came as a 4 door sedan but had 3 trim levels, Commodore, Commodore SL and the top of the line Commodore SL/E. In July 1979 two station wagon version joined the line up.

Wheels Magazine awarded the VB Commodore “Car of the Year” in 1978. In 1979 Commodores finished 1-2-3 in the Repco Round Australia Reliability Trial.
