The American Motors Corporation, commonly referred to as AMC, was a unique and innovative American automobile manufacturer that operated from 1954 through 1987.

AMC was formed through the merger of the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation and the Hudson Motor Car Company, making it the largest corporate merger in U.S. history at the time.

Throughout its history, AMC produced a wide range of vehicles including compact cars, muscle cars, and sport-utility vehicles.

Some of AMC's most well-known and iconic models included the Rambler, which was named Motor Trend Car of the Year in 1963, the Javelin pony car, the AMX two-seat sports car, and the Jeep Cherokee XJ, which is widely considered the first true modern SUV.

AMC was known for its small, economical, and fuel-efficient cars in the 1950s and 1960s. However, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the company shifted focus and produced several memorable high-performance muscle cars like the Marlin, Rebel, and machines to compete against offerings from the "Big Three" American automakers.

Despite its innovations, AMC struggled financially during the 1970s and was ultimately acquired by Chrysler Corporation in 1987.

Even though AMC no longer exists today, its legacy lives on, and the company is remembered for its unique and forward-thinking vehicles that were often ahead of their time.
