Hillman, a British automobile manufacturer founded in 1907, has an interesting history. The company began producing cars in Coventry, England under the leadership of William Hillman.
In its early years, Hillman focused on creating small, affordable cars for the masses. Its first model, the 9 horsepower Hillman-Coatalen, debuted in 1907 and was an immediate success.
As Hillman's reputation grew, the company expanded its lineup with larger, more luxurious models through the 1920s and 1930s, including the Hillman 14, Hillman 20, and Hillman Wizard.
Following World War II, Hillman continued innovating with models like the Minx, Husky, Super Minx, and Imp. These well-engineered, stylish vehicles helped Hillman become one of Britain's most popular car brands.
In 1963, Hillman merged with Humber and Sunbeam to form the Rootes Group. Under Chrysler's ownership in the 1970s, the Hillman name was gradually phased out.
However, the legacy of Hillman's well-crafted, affordable vehicles lives on as a memorable chapter in British automotive history.
