Borgward was a German automobile manufacturer founded by Carl F. W. Borgward in 1919. The company initially produced radiators and fenders before moving into automobile production in 1924 with the Blitzkarren, a small three-wheeled delivery vehicle.

Borgward went on to produce a wide range of vehicles over the following decades, from compact cars to luxury sedans, sports cars, and even helicopters.

The marque achieved notable racing success in the 1950s. Borgward's 1500 model, powered by a 1.5L straight-4 engine, won its class at the 1950 24 Hours Le Mans. At the 1954 Carrera Panamericana, Borgward's 1500 RS Rennsport took 1-2 finishes in the sedan class.

The elegant Isabella coupe, introduced in 1954, proved popular and sold well internationally. Despite this success, Borgward faced financial difficulties by the early 1960s. Controversial circumstances surrounded the company's 1961 bankruptcy and closure amid accusations of political collusion against Carl Borgward.
