Hudson 1948 Convertible | carmanualsdirect

The Hudson Motor Car Company, founded in 1909 in Detroit, Michigan, was a pioneering American automobile manufacturer that left an indelible mark on the industry through its innovations and motorsports achievements.

Hudson's early models, such as the Essex and Super Six, were renowned for their advanced engineering, durability, and performance.

The company's signature innovation was the "step-down" chassis design introduced in 1948, which lowered the car's center of gravity and improved handling, ride quality, and safety.

Hudson's motorsports legacy was cemented by its dominance in stock car racing during the early 1950s. The Hudson Hornet, with its potent inline-six engine and low-slung chassis, became a formidable competitor on the track, winning numerous races and championships.

Legendary drivers like Marshall Teague, Herb Thomas, and Tim Flock piloted Hudson Hornets to victory in NASCAR and AAA events. Despite its racing successes and loyal following, Hudson struggled financially and merged with Nash-Kelvinator in 1954 to form American Motors Corporation (AMC).

While the Hudson brand was eventually phased out, its impact on automotive design, engineering, and racing endures as a testament to American ingenuity and passion for the automobile.
