The Cool and Classic XB Falcon
In 1973, the XB Falcon hit the scene with a bang. It was known as "The Great Australian Road Car" and had some cool new features like a multifunction control stalk and new colors. The design was sleek and aggressive, building on the style of the previous XA Falcon.
The XB Falcon was the first Falcon to come with front disc brakes as standard. It also marked the production of two million vehicles built by Ford in Australia, with a Fairmont being the official 2,000,000th vehicle off the assembly line.
The XB range included different models like the 500, Futura, GT, and Fairmont. It was a hit with the average driver, outselling the XA Falcon by over 68,000 vehicles.
Ford introduced a value for money program with the XB Falcon, offering extra features as standard on most models. They also got creative with recreational vehicles like the Overnighter with a slide-on over-night camper to provide comfortable camping accommodation for two and Surferoo, fitted with molded fibre glass storage compartments, foam mattress, ice-box and fluorescent interior lighting making the XB Falcon versatile for work and play.
The XB Falcon became famous for its appearances in movies like Mad Max and Mad Max 2. It was known as the Pursuit Special in the films and was a favorite among fans for its cool design and powerful performance.
