The Legendary XB GT Falcon: A Classic Australian Muscle Car
Back in September 1973, Ford introduced the XB GT Falcon, which quickly became a fan favorite. It was the last Falcon GT model for almost two decades until the 25th Anniversary EBII GT came along in October 1992. The XB GT had a bold new look, inspired by the iconic 71-73 Mach 1 Mustang.
The XB GT was a hit among car enthusiasts, with a total of 2,899 units sold. In August 1975, Ford released the John Goss Special, a limited-edition hardtop version with a unique color scheme and special GT features. This special edition was created to honor John Goss, the only driver to win both the Australian Grand Prix and the Bathurst 1000 races.
Ford produced 1,950 XB GT sedans and 949 hardtops, making it one of the most sought-after GT models in Ford's lineup. The XB GT was a perfect blend of performance and comfort, making it a standout in Australian automotive culture.
The XB GT was powered by the mighty 351 Cleveland V8 engine, known for its impressive power and torque. It also offered improved handling and ride quality compared to its predecessor. The aggressive front end, twin-nostril bonnet, split honeycomb grille, and larger wraparound tail lights gave the XB GT a distinctive and iconic look, reminiscent of the Mustang Mach 1.
