Holden VT Commodore Police Pack Specifications (9C1 and A8V)

Holden VT Commodore Police Pack Specifications (9C1 and A8V)

The Holden VT Commodore Police Pack was developed to meet the specialised operational requirements of Australian police departments. Two police package configurations were available for VT models: Production Option 9C1, based on the Executive model, and A8V, based on the SS model. These vehicles incorporated a range of mechanical, electrical and equipment upgrades designed to support extended operation, high-load electrical systems and law-enforcement duties while maintaining the performance and durability expected from the Commodore platform.

VT Police Pack Model Options

Two main production configurations were offered during the VT series.

9C1 Police Pack — based on the Executive model
A8V Police Pack — based on the SS model

Both sedan and wagon body styles were available depending on departmental requirements. Police vehicles could be equipped with either V6 or V8 engines depending on specification and series production.

Engine and Drivetrain Options

VT police vehicles were available with several engine combinations depending on model series and police pack configuration.

• 3.8L V6 engine with automatic or manual transmission
• 5.0L V8 engine with automatic or manual transmission (Series I)
• 5.7L Gen III V8 engine with automatic or manual transmission (Series II)

Police vehicles were also fitted with a modified automatic transmission control system and a spin-resistant differential (limited slip differential) to improve traction and vehicle control during high-speed operation.

Police Pack Mechanical and Electrical Features

VT police vehicles incorporated a number of heavy-duty components and specialised equipment designed for operational durability.

• Sports suspension (FE2)
• Heavy duty battery systems
• High output alternator systems
• Automatic transmission oil cooler (V8 models)
• High ambient temperature cooling package for V8 engines
• Auxiliary wiring harness for emergency equipment
• Dual horns
• Police certified instrument cluster
• Modified automatic transmission gate control
• Sump guard for underbody protection

These upgrades supported the installation of emergency equipment while ensuring reliability during extended idling and demanding driving conditions.

Police Vehicle Equipment and Safety Systems

Standard safety and equipment systems fitted to VT police vehicles included dual airbags, anti-lock braking systems and specialised interior lighting controls. An interior lights override function allowed officers to disable interior lighting when doors were opened, preventing visibility during night operations. Many vehicles were also fitted with steel wheels and heavy-duty tyres suited to operational use.

Police Pack Identification

Vehicles equipped with the 9C1 or A8V police packs can be identified through the Body Option and Identification Plate located in the engine compartment on the left-hand side of the front upper panel. The model code on this plate includes the police pack production option which confirms the vehicle was manufactured with the specialised police equipment package.

OUR Workshop Manual – Complete Service Information
